Ripping my hair out

Soooo my Sims game crashed on me last night.....

I tried to check to see what the problem was with no avail. I was able to save all of my important Sims but I decided not to save the neighborhoods. After I did that I went to try to uninstall and reinstall my games. I was able to uninstall the expansions but when it came to the Sims 2 base game it kept telling me that I couldn't uninstall it because there was another Sims game still installed. I decided to try something else; pop in the base game disk and see if it would let me play but it kept telling me I had the wrong disk in but the message was blank to which disk was supposed to be used instead. I clicked OK then popped in each of my expansions to see which disk it was but I got the box for installation on all of them, telling me that they weren't installed.

I went to check and for some reason all of the folders were still in the EA Games folder under programs so I thought that maybe I didn't completely uninstall them so I tried again but the computer acted like nothing was pressed. I searched google for solutions to the problem and came across the ModTheSims game help:Uninstall and followed the directions on looking for the hidden files on my computer. I looked at the file numbers for each of the games I owned and none of them appeared in there, not even the basegame file.

I figure that maybe it was really uninstalled so I popped in the BaseGame disk again seeing if I could re-install but I have the same wrong disk message but it doesn't tell me which disk. Ok alright so I ended up installing one of the expansion packs and one stuff pack (University and Teen Style Stuff). The expansion pack installed just fine but the stuff pack cancelled the installation on me saying it wasn't able to install. So I'm sitting there like OK cool, I try to start up the game with the University disk I was able to click on it no problem and got no message saying I was using the wrong disk so I figured I'd wait to see what happens, and guess what NOTHING happened the game wouldn't start up at all. I went into My Documents and looked at the EA games, Sims 2 folder there and the only things that show up are the teleport folder, the logs folder and groups.cache.

I'm saving all my important files to an external hard drive. I really don't want to do a full system restore on my computer but I'm worried I might have to :(. I'm even more worried that I may need to invest in a new computer. I am waiting on things right now until my dad gets home. But is anyone else know anything about this I would greatly appreciate any help.

I have already checked the registry as well and no files related to Sims or EA are in there at all, like they don't exist but they think they do.
